Interested in getting the most out of Prague in a short amount of time? For visitors with just a day or two in the city we offer and
extended walk combining essential points from our detailed tours to introduce you to
Prague''s four original towns and a millennium of history.
We begin our walk in
Old Town Square, heart of historic Prague, where a medieval marketplace first developed over a thousand years ago. Next it''s Prague''s Jewish Quarter, miraculous survivor of Nazi occupation. After a short scenic tram ride- and a short refreshment break- it''s on to Prague''s smallest quarter
Hradcany, and
Prague Castle, crowned by the spires of St. Vitus cathedral. Through the quiet alleys of the
Lesser Quarter below we come next to the mythic Vltava River and Charles Bridge, a ''gallery under the sky.'' The magnificent baroque Clementinum complex welcomes us back to the Old Town where we visit Bethlehem Chapel, preaching church of medieval reformer Jan Hus. Before leaving the Old Town we pass the Estates Theater where Mozart premiered his opera Don Giovanni in 1787. Our walk ends on Wenceslas Square in the New Town, heart of modern Prague. Here historical events and upheavals- from Nazi occupation, through communist oppression and the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion, to the 1989 Velvet Revolution- definitively shaped the nation in the 20th century.
